Anyone who likes to water ski, knows that once the first signs of summer approach us it is time to break out the water skies. Boating and water skiing are fun, however there are some water skiing tips that should be considered to insure that everyone has a fun, safe time.
It is so important to have enough flotation devices for everyone on your boat. It is required that any children under the age of thirteen wear an approved flotation device. This is a god idea for anyone that cannot swim as well.
Make sure that you know your surroundings before you start skiing. Recognize what areas have more boats, shallow areas and debris in the water. It is better to know what to expect before you start, because once you are moving it may be too late.
It is a good idea to have someone act as a lookout on the boat. This will lessen the chance of anything going wrong. Anything can happen at any given moment. It would be a terrible feeling to look back and not see your friend anywhere.
Make sure that you use the right skies for you. There are skis for beginners and skis for the more advance water skier. If you are just starting out, you do not want to use a ski for professionals. There is a difference in the skis and ones for beginners are made to make it easier for the skier.
Remember to establish good hand signals with the boat crew. Yelling while skiing just does not work because of the boat motor and wind. It is just easier to have hand signals so that the driver knows what the skier wants and needs.
If a skier stops or falls, the boat should always reach the skier from the right side to allow the driver to always know where the skier is in the water. If the boat passes the skier on the left, there is more of a chance for the boat to hit or run over the skier.
Always remember to wear the right gear when water-skiing. A wet suite is best to wear, because you can almost guarantee that you are going to get wet. Make sure that you wear the proper eye protection. When water is hitting you at a high rate of speed, it hurts. You do not want to take any chances of being hit in the eye with stinging water.
