Speed Water Skiing

The main idea of water skiing is to run a course at all ability levels and being able to create angles and maintain them as you accelerate. You do not have to be traveling at high speeds to enjoy water skiing. High speed water skiing can be dangerous if you are attempting speeds that are unsafe and if you are not familiar with the course. Speed water skiing is usually for the skiers that are attempting jumps and tricks and are more advanced skiers.

You need to be able to ski at speeds that are comfortable for you. You need to be able to handle the turns as you accelerate through the wakes and decelerating before the next turn.

There are some strategies that will help you maintain your hold to the water throughout the acceleration and deceleration process. The first thing is to be patient after you reach top speed and finish your turn by skiing your outside hip around and up to the handle. Try not to pull in and be patient and allow your self to complete and finish your turn be for you begin to accelerate again.

The more leverage that you leave behind the boat, the more angle you will be able to maintain. By keeping your weight evenly distributed across both feet you will be able to bend your knees a little more. When you bend your knees more you will increase your lean and leverage against the boat.

The more speed that the boat gains, the faster you will be able to go and the more you will need to be in control. Never travel at speeds that you cannot keep up with and that you do not feel comfortable with.

High speeds when water skiing can be dangerous, however if you are ready to go at these speeds and you know that you can handle your self, it can be a lot of fun. There is no bigger thrill than being pulled at a high rate of speed and feel the rush of the water under your feet.

Water skiing at high speeds helps you get better leverage in jumps and when you are doing tricks. If you are a water skier that loves to do the tricks and jumps, then you know what kind of jumps you can perform with higher speeds.

Even though high speed is exciting, you do not need it to have fun while water skiing. Just the thrill of being on the water and skimming the top of it is enough for most.
