Fly fishing is something that is normally done from land, or
standing still in the water or from a bigger size boat. Kayak
fly fishing may seem like a crazy idea at first, but their are
some great advantages by using a kayak. There are also a great
deal of disadvantages, but if you can over come them you are on
your way to a wonderful fishing adventure.
Disadvantages
Some of the disadvantages that you will need to overcome before
you even try to fly fish from your kayak. You may find it
difficult at first to keep control of your line because you are
so close to the water. Also, if you catch a fish, it may be
difficult to reel it in and not tip over the kayak. Especially
if it is a big one! The one other disadvantage may be the
rockiness of the kayak disturbing the water. If you can remain
still in your boat and are already used to the kayak then this
should not be a problem. Once you overcome these very few
disadvantages you can experience the best fishing of your life!
Advantages
Fly fishing in a kayak has great advantages if you can get past
the few disadvantages that are listed above. Being in a kayak
allows you to cover a lot more water, quickly and swiftly. This
is key for fly fishing. You can also go into some of the best
untapped fishing holes that otherwise you would not have been
able to. These types of place normally do not allow motor boats,
so your kayak is perfect! Another great advantage is the silence
of the kayak. There are not loud motors or propellers, just
smooth rowing. This is a very important factor for fishers!
If you already have a kayak there is no need to buy a new one
just for fly fishing. It is important and much easier for you to
own the shortest kayak available. This will make your fly
fishing much easier. Try it for yourself. It is a relaxing and
enjoyable hobby to have.
