Goal setting charts are a great aid
|
| |
The best way to chart your goal is with the help of goal setting charts. These charts help you lay out your goals in an easy-to-understand format. More than that, they help you break your goal into several sub-goals and fix deadlines for each sub-goal.
You also have the option to modify your goals, as you proceed from one point to another. This enables you not to loose sight of your main goal. The chart also helps you stay focused because at all points of time you know your progress.
You can change your deadlines, if you feel that there has been a sharp change in circumstances. You can even introduce new sub-tasks that have become critical to your success. For instance, you may consider it essential to undertake a training program to learn the new technology. This may not have been necessary when you had initially charted your goals.
The charts also work as important motivators. They add to your confidence, and self-belief, every time a sub-goal is achieved. You can compare yourself to an army chief whose confidence soars every time he plants a flag pin to indicate the fall of an enemy position.
The charts also help you to identify hurdles and draw up plans to meet them. This enables you to be prepared beforehand. For instance, you don't have to tap different sources to arrange fees for your son who is entering a professional course. You would have planned this in advance, and kept the money ready.
You have the option to use a physical chart, and make your entries in pencil or pen. You can also use soft charts based on Word or Excel files. The latter are more flexible and useful because you can make changes with ease. Some of the more modern software provides review coaches too. This makes charting your goals, and their accomplishment, even easier. Written by: The Editor
